Foot Facts
- The body is a mass of constantly changing variables with nerves, muscles, sensations, pain and mental attitudes. We are all different and we each have our own unique variations in structure.
- In human mechanics (biomechanics), when a small force is applied to the foot, it is amplified through the joints, bones and muscles so that by the time that force gets to the knee, hip, back or neck the effect of the force is much greater.
- Between 75% and 80% of the adult population have some form of foot problem and about 80% of the population demonstrates some degree of postural (hips, back, neck) complaint.

- We were designed to walk on forever changing surfaces like grass, mud, sand, all of which yield to us. However, we decided to flatten all that out so now we walk on hard, flat unyielding surfaces. So, whatever shape we have been made (bow legs, knock knees or smaller differences we cannot see) we have to adapt our shape to fit the ground. This involves moving our joints slightly further in one direction or another and produces extra forces. Those forces go up through the body and can create aches or injury in the feet, ankles, legs, knees, hips or back.
- There are 44 million working days lost each year and women have approximately four times as many foot problems as men.
